that would just be naive i think, i dont have it in me to go find it rn but dnc types were talking to news about being worried about primary attacks weakening them in the general. its an inherently authoritarian mindset, and its incredibly frustrating to not have a real say in who our governor is

i’m less confident about that last part, she’s at the same spot polling wise as mcauliffe was in 2021. i don’t think there was a grand salacious conspiracy where dems threatened to break kneecaps, but i refuse to believe there was no politician in the state who was interested in challenging her

see 2021 RE mcauliffe, it's been a long time since 2017. i also don't see how one person dropping out pre-everything proves anything, he may well have dropped out because of party pressure. there was a concerted effort not to "weaken the party" with a primary

um, are you from virginia? mcauliffe is not popular here and stoney is even less so, ask anyone from richmond about him
September 22, 2025 at 11:18 PM
its incredibly obvious that there was pressure from the party for nobody to run against her. it was a de facto appointment
September 22, 2025 at 11:02 PM
sorry but if you think there's no other dem in the state who wanted to run for governor, when so many ran for lt governor, idk what to tell you. there was obviously pressure from the party for nobody to challenge her

also, fuck spanberger for giving into the republican narrative on this, and FUCK the virginia democratic party for refusing to give us a primary and just appointing her as the gubernatorial nominee
September 22, 2025 at 6:43 PM
nick is a well known asshole in northern virginia. transphobia is his primary issue, he's always pushing these narratives and it's so gross

i don’t think there’s been real gun control momentum in this country since sandy hook. parkland, maybe? but even that felt like it had no real movement. the fact that we looked at 26 dead kids and were unable to pass anything really feels like the death knell, it just zeroed out any momentum

like i read nate silver's article on bluesky today and he uses the amount of times people google bluesky vs x/twitter in each state to measure their popularity... babygirl maybe people are just trying to look up tweets because the search function sucks

political researchers understand that there are many different reasons people could search for a given term challenge: impossible
