DuckLaserDuck Game

The Roguelite game we deserve. Power ups that feel meaningful with synergy. And not that obviously built-in synergy. We're talking potentially crazy synergy

This UI style looks really nice. It's as clean and readable as the normal minimal UI that most apps use now, but it's got a unique style to it. Two thumbs up

You can try out some changes before release by switching to the beta branch on Steam

It's so you can use the app lol

Bro you forgot to tag temperature and body temp NOOOOOO

Running is OP because wind says "[[Running]] is [[OP]] because [[wind]] actually removes [[sweat]] and [[heat]] faster, the faster you run (as long as the temperature is below body temp). Just a [[Thought]]."

Best one I found so far.

This is my Zettlekasten where I put all my ideas and notes. The linking I chose was mostly individual words, but I haven't used it all that much. The node next to my mouse is "Running is OP because wind" btw lol

TL;DR, Anything that doesn't seem like it would come after something that already exists is a starting upgrade. Mostly basic upgrades that do basic things.

Ofc there are some other trees which stem from unique items, like chain lightning, and effect trees like poison, burn, frost, critical hit modifiers, drones, etc.

There are about 30 starting upgrades (light green). That may seem like a lot for an RPG skill tree. In roguelikes, it's ~100+ with shallow depth.

I broke my into fewer, deeper branches to make the run-building more nuanced. Starting upgrades are mostly basic items like +speed, +firerate, +dmg.

Most of the upgrades that branch from 2+ require both of those upgrades for it to unlock.

A few upgrades do only require 1 on the tree, but you wouldn't be able to know the difference from this graph.

The upgrades you get are pretty random so I don't have any blocked off paths just yet (if that's what you mean)

It's useful for knowing the general structure of your upgrade tree—not too many unconnected branches, see general ratios, etc. It's got a quick and easy linking setup, but isn't great for more dynamic stuff like "poison + burn = flaming poison".

Drawing works but is more manual than I'd like.

I made this graphic using Obsidian, I saw it from a Zettlekasten video and was making a Zettlekasten for everything. It seemed like a good tool for this though.

I can't put upgrade images and the sorting isn't great (it's a circle). Anyone know a better tool for dynamically sorted upgrade trees?

Same bro. I have like 20-40 unfinished games that I wish I'd put more time into as a kid and released just to build some kind of following and have some kind of impact on the space.
