Can't believe that @canadaland.com has better analysis than NYT Daily on Venuzulan oil geopolitics - one cannot simply 'turn on / off spigot' with heavy crude requiring in-situ extraction, this isn't Saudi light, sweet or even American shale fracking.
Since deposing Nicolás Maduro, President Trump has given several justifications for his dramatic actions in Venezuela. But perhaps most central to his ambitions is opening Venezuela’s oil fields to U.S. companies.

Listen to "The Daily."
Can Trump Make Venezuelan Oil Great Again?
President Trump wants U.S. oil companies back in Venezuela, which boasts the largest oil reserves in the world.

An hour into an hour and a half drive, realized I forgot my jacket in the rush to pack the car. Was going to be a game time decision whether I went snowboarding while the kid & missus have their first ski lesson of the season but I guess that decides it.

It is currently snowing at the mountain.

At least publicly, it seems like the US 'threats' being planned for are in-direct / spillover.

But wonder if there is any additional red-team thinking of withdrawing from NPT and adopting strategic ambiguity posture. Seems mostly downside risk but surely some CDN gov/mil body is gaming it out.
Striking reporting on Canadian defence planning. 'The Dep't of National Defence began discussing the creation of a civil-defence capability around the time Mr Trump suggested he would use “economic force” to persuade Canadians to join the United States' www.economist.com/the-americas...

Just listened to an Oct 2023 episode of Across the Movie Aisle where they discuss how axolotls would be the next ‘trend animal’ for kids and I keep thinking about how much axolotl stuff my 8yo has asked for this year. #ceruleanblue

My wife brought home some Margo Maloo books for our 8yo having no idea that @drewweing.bsky.social’s Journal Comic was my introduction to webcomics decades ago and the randomness of the internet is melting my brain a bit.

The kiddo attended a grade 3 Halloween party last week, his first kid non-birthday party party.

Apparently he was so fed up with the zombie music and dancing, he got them to play some Herb Alpert to change things up. Couldn't be prouder, hahaha.

The kiddo was wrecked when he realized there would be no parade but this post-season run made a new baseball fan. What a battle, oh, so close.

There's nothing like going to a record store to browse and unexpectedly finding an album on your wantlist that's been out of print for years.

Been actively listening to more podcasts from the 'Canadian right' to balance my naturally more progressive-technocratic leanings but find them so intellectually dishonest.

Why can't they disagree with policies without strawman arguments?!?

I honestly think the only better game I've ever seen in my life was 2010. And that's because it was gold at home and we could spill onto the streets.
