My son Seamus died 15 years ago today. He was killed by a careless driver in a crosswalk.

He walked at 9 months, almost as if he knew he wouldn’t have much time. His favorite thing to do was throw rocks into water. He loved the moon. He called butterflies “buddy buddies.” I miss him every day.

Behold, the moon.

Sad to miss the Portland #NoKings protest but I stopped by the one in Sedona. Shout out to the 🐸

I wish STRIKE FOOTBALL was fake and not a real game you can buy at Fred Meyer for $39.99

(I had no choice but to buy it for my 6yo nephew’s birthday 😂)

Today in What Fresh Hell: I’m camping with my family in the San Juan Islands(WA) about to enjoy a peaceful sunset when this helicopter and 2 passenger drones appeared overhead.

Why are they called stand up paddle boards?

I spent the weekend in San Diego with @familiesforsafestreets.org members and leaders, plotting the transportation revolution. You will not find a more inspiring group of humans. I want to tell you about some of them. They included:

Having kids who can draw has really elevated our protest sign game

Just thinking about the times I've been warned/surprised by a small craft advisory on a windless morning and wondering if anyone will be around to monitor/issue them this summer. Critical infrastructure I did not think I would have to worry about, like ever. WTF

This was a push-poll I just received. Presume it was commissioned by a law firm defending a company whose driver killed someone. The whole thing made me feel ill thinking about what that family is about to experience in court. Here is a screengrab:

A Fire Story by Brian Fies is a really beautiful graphic novel that changed the way I think about what it means to lose your home in this way.

My kids have started asking why we don’t go skiing where there are chairlifts and I just act confused, like I’ve never heard of such a thing. (Don’t believe everything you see on YouTube; It must be AI, etc.)

Can’t decide if the subject is meant as a joke but I lol’d

Every day in front of my kids’ middle school. (And why I don’t let them ride home without me)

This is the room in my brain where I keep track of who definitely knows, who doesn't know, who I've purposely lied to, who might know, and who probably knows about my dead son. Important to consult this before talking about my children with casual acquaintances.

Portland, hope to see you tomorrow to mark world day of remembrance. We have a beautiful program planned 💛

Fourteen years ago today my son Seamus was struck by a careless driver in a crosswalk. Tomorrow we will mark the anniversary of his death. We will also attend my 12yo's soccer tournament. I'm on snack duty 🥴 1/3

Riding my bike in Island County, WA (where most waterfront property is privately owned) always makes me so grateful for Oregon’s public beaches. This was taken on a street called West Beach road and in 6 miles I did not see a beach and only caught tiny glimpses of ocean in between fence slats 👎

We limped along with a dying gas range for 2 years waiting for IRA electrification rebates to roll out in Oregon, but they never did do we finally shelled out $ for an induction range. (Which we love btw) Kind of unbelievable that they wouldn’t get this program running before the election.

Very grateful to @thewaroncars.bsky.social for treating our story with such care. I hope you will listen!

Here's one of my favorite photos of Seamus, taken 2 months before he died ❤️
