look, I'm gen-X, and I love my horrible, feral generation, but I'll be the first to admit that the millennials are funnier than us

and one of the main reasons why is that for like 3 glorious years in the mid-2010s they had to learn how to be funny in 7 seconds or less, and they learned *fast*

a) the main interface wasn't a feed of videos from accounts you've followed or subscribed to, but a purely random selection

b) videos were strictly limited to 7 seconds

if you're too young to know what Vine is, it was essentially the forerunner of TikTok: short, usually silly videos filmed and posted online mostly for light entertainment (and/or chaos)

BUT

I dunno, I feel like I need trepanning like I need a hole in the head...

...and _still_ it's being rammed down our throats everywhere we turn and there's this blithe insistence that AI will help everyone with everything. we're not Cassandras, everyone else is just a fucking idiot.

The old groundskeeper's never met Craig!Bond, although he's seen photos. Part of his assignment is if the current Bond arrives with anyone else, he's to keep up the pretence, calling Bond "Master James," etc. Boosh, done.

Also, if they *do* want to finally confirm Many-Bonds, this is the easiest thing in the world to work around: "Skyfall" is a safe house set up for James Bond. Each 00 agents gets one. M isn't told about them, because if a 00 agent needs a safehouse, no-one can be trusted.

Of course, Skyfall officially scotched the Many-Bonds theory (as I understand it, an earlier version of the script was going to *confirm* it, but they wussed out in the end) by having James go to the farm where he grew up, confirming that James Bond is his real name...

Is it another reboot? Is it Many Bonds? Is there a convoluted explanation about how he escaped the island just before it was destroyed, somehow deactivated the nanites and got back to England?

Who knows? They don't have to make it make sense. It's James fucken Bond!
November 12, 2025 at 11:53 AM
But leaving all this aside, they seem to be more or less forgetting the fact that they *don't have to explain anything*.

At the end of No Time To Die we don't *actually* see him killed; the facility is destroyed by missiles. They can just have him turn up to work the next film!
November 12, 2025 at 11:53 AM
...but it *also* gave him the original sky blue 1964 Aston Martin DB5, with no explanation of where he got it other than a shrug and a "long story."

Fucking with the audience is an established part of the series.

Personally I'm a firm Many-Bonds theorist, so it's no problem for me to just bring in a new James Bond.

The fandom's official answer is that this is a new continuity, which works except that M is still played by Judi Dench, who took over the role for Goldeneye and was Brosnan's M for four films. If she's playing two versions of the character there's nothing to indicate it.

Fucking hell. *sigh*

So now we have people who refuse to get their kids vaccinated, swearing off paracetamol because they think it'll give them autism, and they're stuffing fucking *potatoes* in their socks to cure colds because "toxins."
November 12, 2025 at 9:14 AM
But the ubiquity of the term, the uncritical way it's been accepted, means it has remained this vulnerability in the public consciousness. Come up with a new way "toxins" get into your body, hawk a new way to get "toxins" out, and you'll always make a killing before the debunkers catch up to you.
November 12, 2025 at 9:14 AM
None of them do anything, of course. When it comes to toxins, your body actually knows pretty well what it's doing: feed it properly, keep it warm and hydrated, and it'll generally get rid of things it doesn't want and keep things it wants without special help.
