The game is broken and doesn’t really make sense. The contestants lied about their accents and jobs for the most bizarre reasons. Far too many participants are rude and unlikeable. Still, there goes the best damn reality TV show we ever had.

There is no better feeling on earth than seeing Nunez score a late winner.

He’ll miss chances. But he will always, always give 100% and make stuff happen. Anything else he contributes is a bonus.

No matter what happens, I will always adore Darwin.

“I don’t know why people expect art to make sense. They accept the fact that life doesn’t make sense.”

RIP David Lynch.

Album of the day #9

Prince - Dirty Mind

The beginning of Prince’s imperial phase and my favourite of his classic albums.

The sound of this thing is so good. The production on all of of his 80s records is great, but this really itches my brain. It’s exquisite.

Album of the day #8:

Hot Chip - Melody of Love

What always set Hot Chip apart from other early-noughties indie-electronic peers was their excellent songwriting.

MoL is no different - a great late-career album from a British institution.

Oh, my heart bleeds.

Imagine finishing 2nd by 1 point twice when Man City were in their prime with 92 & 97 points.

Arteta is a good coach & has done wonders at Arsenal. But he hasn’t deserved to win the PL because he’s never had the best team.

His sense of entitlement reeks of an AFTV take.

Alvin of the day #7:

Mac Miller - Swimming

Released only a month before his untimely death, Swimming, alongside the posthumously released Circles, serve as proof that Mac was one of the most talented rappers of his time.

Life Without Buildings - Any Other City

Flawless 21st Century post-punk with a one-of-a-kind vocalist.

A clear precursor to the brilliant Dry Cleaning.

Dave - Psychodrama

Gun to my head my favourite British rap album of the 21st Century.

Dave’s emotionally intelligent lyrics and vulnerable, honest, progressive storytelling set him apart from the pack.

A modern classic.

#Gladiators is one of the best things on TV. The celeb special is sublime - love Rob ‘The Beaver’ Beckett.

Bring on Season 2. Proper Saturday Night TV.

Re: TAA. Hard to believe he isn’t going to Madrid in the summer.

Love him as a player. Lots of ifs, buts & maybes - but if LFC do win the title with games to spare when he’s already agreed to join Madrid, there’s a real possibility he’ll get a v. ugly reception from fans in his last games.

Album of the day #4

Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour

This album holds a special place in my heart as it’s the first record me & my wonderful fiancé fell in love with equally.

Full of wonderful country pop songs & even better memories.

Fear I’ve spoiled all future first dibs on movie choice by suggesting to my fiancé that we watch The Substance.

Suffice to say it didn’t go down well.

It’s brilliant. Don’t watch it if you don’t like body horror.

Album of the day #3:

The Avalanches - We Will Always Love You

Since I Left You, their debut, is a classic, but imo this is their masterpiece - piecing together 900+ samples w/ collabs to prove their great songwriting skills.

It sounds like the past, present & future.

Album of the day #2: Purple Mountains - Purple Mountains

Probably the saddest, wittiest album of the last 10 years.

The world is a worse place for David Berman no longer being with us.

Tell your loved ones you love them before it’s too late.

Just out of seeing Better Man. I loved everything about it.

Don’t let the fact that Robbie is portrayed as a chimp put you off - far from a gimmick, it perfectly serves the story.

Go and see it on the big screen.

Album of the day: Boris - Heavy Rocks

I’ve only dipped my toe into the legendary Japanese sludge-metal/noise-rock band Boris but I’ve loved everything I’ve heard.

This was no exception.

Absolutely epic riffage. Got me through an otherwise seriously boring morning at work.

1 - MJ Lenderman - Manning Fireworks

There’s nothing groundbreaking about this LP.

On surface level, it’s a pretty straightforward alt-country record.

But everything MJL touches turns to gold - and this is no different.

An exceptional songwriter.

2 - Johnny Blue Skies - Passage du Desir

Sturgill Simpson - the most interesting country artist of the last decade - is no more.

Good job his alter-ego is up to the task of delivering some of the most beautiful songs of his career. A masterpiece.

3 - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Wild God

I respected Cave’s last few albums but, honestly, I could never quite get past the - understandably - relentless sadness.

His latest with the Bad Seeds is joyous. I’m so glad it sounds like he has found some peace.

4 - Charli XCX - Brat

An album so good that it captured the zeitgeist in a way that no record in recent memory has managed to.

That was no fluke - it’s packed with countless tunes, clever lyrics & immaculate production.

The remix album was great, too.

5 - Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us

I’ll admit that I take VW for granted: they release albums so sporadically, I forget how consistently great they are.

The production & mixing on their latest makes it, imo, the best *sounding* album of the year.

6 - Kendrick Lamar - GNX

TBAP is a top 10 of all time record. Liked, didn’t love Damn. Really respected Mr Morale but seldom feel compelled to revisit it.

GNX is arguable Kendrick’s most fun album.

Never thought I’d say this but: thanks Drake.
