I really enjoy the way my body's starting to look now, but it was already worthy of appreciation before this. Not that you'd catch me taking pictures of it. I'm still a middle-aged gay man in LA, for god's sake, but at least I have better tools to fight the body-image issues now.

When I went back to the gym, it was important to not be motivated by self-hate. I needed to love my body BEFORE it began to change. Even if I didn't look like the guys in the mirror next to me, every time I lifted, I felt good about what I could do. >>

After the first year or two of the pandemic, I was clocking in at 225+. When I expressed disappointment in myself, my therapist kept reminding me that this was the body that was keeping me alive THROUGH A GLOBAL PANDEMIC. Gradually, I became grateful for it. >>
