i think sticking through with books that are hard to read is great, cause even if you may very well struggle to comprehend it, or simply just not enjoy it, you'll definitely build up your taste as you go and really be able to hone it on what you like, like other mediums.

i would think of it less in the context of "you need to be smart" and moreso "you need to be attuned to it" like other mediums. Some books, just like some films, albums, etc., are very accessible, while others require a more seasoned perspective. basically the more you read the better it'll get.
