Resistance proved fertile. @snappedankles.bsky.social bringing the forest rave to the Piper last night

Then a dash across to the Barbican in time to catch a couple of rare treats, Jeremiah Chiu & Marta Sofia Honer, followed by the inimitable Tortoise. Perfect day

Early @babayagashut.bsky.social show at the ICA, Craven Faults wonderful atmospheric electronica sounding spot on. And looking formidable. Great support from Flaer too.

I saw a tiny band playing on a table top. I think it was Tortoise

Slovenian drone folk trio Sirom at the Rose Hill Tavern. Stage stuffed full with homemade and improvised instruments, but what a magical, hypnotic sound

Unforgettable. The Space Lady landed at the Jazz Cafe last night and sprinkled stardust everywhere.

Holly Lane, Erdington, April 1928 (from a glass plate negative). Nock's Brickworks on the right, later a landfill site, now a housing estate.

A memorable journey through the Piper's space portal to the evergreen Planet Gong. Transcendence in East Hastings

Settling in to a trio of Christine Ott film-inspired works. Beautifully compiled and presented by Gizeh Records and Dark Peak Press

With their new LP just out on @riotseasonrecords.bsky.social, Codex Serafini bringing their heady acid incantations to Tough Love St Leonards this afternoon.

Already seen These New Puritans twice this year. Sacrificing a ticket for Protomartyr for a third at Village Underground was made worthwhile by the fine company and, of course, Charles Hayward's excellent and energetic solo set

Swans have left the stage. But only after 2 1/2 hours of electrifying, brutal and beautiful music. All that after a haunting and poignant set from Jessica Moss drawing from her latest - and finest - release, Unfolding

Quality Midland presence at day two of Mutations: Big Special, GANS and Jools - plus Manc outfit Yaang - the picks of the day, but inevitable clashes meant missing some old favourites (Benefits, Pigsx7, Opus Kink)

Day one of Mutations Festival in Brighton - highlights University, Upchuck and Makeshift Art Bar. Nearly ready for day two...

Haven't managed to see Deathcrash since 2021 and last saw Divide & Dissolve on Low's final tour. Getting both at Corsica Studios made for a quality night - if a somewhat poignant one. 3 years to the day since we lost Mimi Parker, tributes on the stage and a lot of Low on the PA.

Saya Gray's quirky art pop was quite exceptional at Electric Brixton last night. As was her excellent backing band. Any comparison with Bill Bailey is quite unwarranted

Last couple nights out both with @babayagashut.bsky.social, great to see @sealionwoman.bsky.social opening for the mighty Big/Brave at the ICA, then a slightly gentler evening at @cafeotodalston.bsky.social with the intriguing White Sage and Immersion

Enjoyed a few hours in the @walkerartgallery.bsky.social whilst in Liverpool. Finally saw the original Charles March Gere I only know from a print, but these works by Peter Doig and Jamie Holman were especially arresting

More Black Country, New Road, this time at Brighton Dome. The Big Star cover was a bonus, as was My New Band Believe, the intriguing new project from ex-Black Midi man Cameron Picton. Very promising.

Something old, something new. David Bedford's orchestral works, including his Roy Harper-inspired Twelve Hours of Sunset.
Private View by London Clay - looks great, sounds even better @gema.bsky.social

Lovely Eggs celebrating 20 years at the Garage. Music to put a big smile on your face. Caught the excellent Polite Bureaux again too. A whole year since the last time, unbelievably.

They're back. And they're on fire. @prolapseband.bsky.social completely chaotically brilliant at @thelexingtonlondon.bsky.social last night. Unforgettable

Fabulous set from James Holden & Waclaw Zimpel at @alphabetbrighton.bsky.social. Getting there early definitely paid off, not sure there was much to see from further back
October 23, 2025 at 12:18 PM
Lost count of how many times I've seen The Utopia Strong, but last night's set at @cafeotodalston.bsky.social must rank as one of their best. Excellent support from Andrew Liles too. Another top night's entertainment from @babayagashut.bsky.social
