Hope things look up for you. We're in a similar boat - lot's of family members are impacted - take care of yourself and scream in your car a little if you have to like I do! I do hope enough wake up to what's going on that we can start healing, but the US isn't going to be the same after.

This is an example of the charge I'm saying that needs to be cleared first - making people wrong for being angry isn't the way. They need to express that anger - ideally in a healthy way to make room for reconciliation later. A forced reconciliation will not last. I yell a lot in my car to purge.

I think sometimes there is significant emotional buildup that must be cleared first, and on the other side of it there may be some empathy again. People actually are pretty quick to forgive and return to kindness if the remorse is truly sincere.

I get what you are saying, and may have extended that empathy to only end up burned again. Some people just cannot feel empathy - most MAGA people with regrets I know even now don't really regret what's going on, only that it effected them.

I don't know if it's revenge as much as it is empathy fatigue. Sometimes it's hard to find empathy to spare on people who have been openly hostile and clearly lacked any empathy towards people to begin with. Running out of cheeks to turn.

Republicans no longer have a sense of right and wrong. Saying Canada "doesn't have the cards" is like saying, "we can screw over Canada, so we will."

I think they are banking that the recipients are vulnerable and won't be able to meaningfully fight back - and eliminating them is just part of eliminating societal waste from people who are "no longer contributing to the economy".
