Folks who are committed to environmental and #climatejustice must be ready to fight on two fronts at the same. Fight against the bad projects that make us sick or kill us and fight for the good ones that make us healthy, resilient and strong to fight another day, month, year, decade and longer.

It rained last night in Elba, Alabama historically Black #Shiloh community. And when it rains, it floods there because of a flawed #ALDOT highway. #ALDOT is dragging it feet in executing the Oct 4, 2024 binding #civilrights settlement it has with the #USDOT to fix the highway & the #flooding.

#EARTHDAY: I just finished @DeboranNArcher book, Dividing Lines: How Transportation Infrastructure Reinforces Racial Inequality. #Flooding in Elba's Black #Shiloh community caused by Alabama DOT is the poster child for today's #highwayrobbery detailed in the book.

The National Black Environmental Justice Network is made up of #HBCU EJ Centers, CBO partners, affiliate scientists, technical and legal experts and practitioners. We use science, research, data and facts married with action to achieve transfornative and lasting change. #HBCUBuzz #HBCUAlum

National Black Environmental Justice Network leaders are meeting in New Orleans today where the founders met in 1999 to chart a bold and proactive plan forward and recommit to bend the arc toward justice. While we've made gains over the past 25 years, many threats remain. Upward and onward!

#EARTHMONTH: I've given hundreds of talks, testified as an expert witness in dozens of lawsuits, and written 18 books using science, research, data and facts over the past forty years. And I'm often asked, what can I do? I've boiled my answer down to one word, MORE! #Environmentaljustice #climate

EJ Centers and #HBCU-CBO Gulf Coast Equity Consortium for years have punched above their weight. They are uniquely positioned to address threats made worse by climate change. Time for Gulf Research Program to commit substantial investments in our work given the shrinking pot of federal funds.

Really excited this morning our #HBCUClimateChange Conference attendees get to hear Dr. Marshall Shepard (UGA), Paul Goodloe (The Weather Channel) and Dr. Alan Seals (AMS) discuss the current state of climate change, latest scientific findings, global policy developments, and challenges ahead.

#BlackHistoryMonth: DYK I started my work on #environmentaljustice in 1979, before it had a name and funding, when Jimmy Carter was president. This work has been carried out under 9 presidents--Democrats and Republicans. The right to breathe clean air has no party affiliation. @BullardCenter

Folks who were around in the early years know we built our Environmental Justice Movement from the bottom up with grassroots groups and in partnership with HBCU EJ Centers years before government embraced EJ. We'll keep working on EJ for All beyond next 4 years until we get the job done.

Many of Elba, AL Shiloh residents like my great grandfather and grandmother 10 years out of Slavery were able to acquire 240 acres of land. Sale of timber paid for our college. Alabama DOT highway flooding is stealing residents' inheritance. Time for Just Compensation for Shiloh. @BullardCenter

We must keep fighting #environmentalinjustice whenever and wherever we see it. DYK I was an expert witness on a case 3 decades ago, CANT v LES, that blocked a uranium enrichment plant slated for two small Black Louisiana communities. The EIS reported nobody living nearby. Not true. We won!

I've written 18 books over 4+ decades working on #environmentaljustice. It's just one book, but don't tell anybody. The books cover science, research, data and facts. However, none of that is not enough for transformative change. We must marry all of that with sustained ACTION. @BullardCenter

The 1979 legal challenge to dumping garbage on Black Houston, 1990 Dumping in Dixie, and 1994 Clinton EJ Exec Order were not about Affirmative Action. Biden's 2023  EJ Exec. Order was not DEI. Equal access to clean air & water and safe environments to live are RIGHTS of all Americans, not DEI.
