I published a piece in this special issue of Social Research, “The Devil is in the Details:Gendered Violence and Corruption in South American Football.” I know it is behind a paywall for many, but the abstracts alone are pretty exciting.
Our long-awaited Fall 2025 issue, "Football Politics," is finally out! And just in time for the final round of the qualifying matches for #FIFAWorldCup #WorldCup #WeAre26.

It is available to read on @projectmuse.bsky.social

I always enjoy finishing my lecture on violences and their representation in contemporary Colombian and Peruvian cinema with the exploding pig scene from los colores de la montaña and then adding ‘I quite feel like some sausages’

England’s batting approach stupidly self sabotages our pace bowling weapons. Blindingly obvious to all but Baz and Stokes

Congratulations to the @leedscitylanguages.bsky.social organisers Sofia Martinho and Bettina Hermoso Gomez for their incredible hard work organising such an incredible programme over the last 2 weeks for the University of Leeds

Australia can take as long as they want here. No need to take any risks. England have to bowl really well again. Currently stinks of a game thrown away by overly aggressive and often foolhardy batting in both innings. If you can’t bat more than 35 overs in either innings you’ve dive something wrong

Feel sorry for whoever it is having to wear the owl costumes tonight. Wondering if they are students…

The four year reminder that you shouldn’t wake up early to listen to England in the first Ashes test.

People came. Always nice to see students and others giving up their time to listen. Good fun

@jeanolafc.bsky.social hi Jean, hope you are well. I’ve been contacted by someone looking to do interviews for a documentary about the women’s World Cup in 1971. I’d like to pass on your details if you are interested?

Great to go on this podcast for the 4th time, discussing a period of domestic and international struggles for Colombian football, with a few outlying achievements standing out in an otherwise ‘black hole’ of positive meanings for football

Atlético Huila are losing their cupo and are going to leave Neiva and play instead in Yumbo, Cali. I’d feel sorry for them, but they got rid of their women’s team after they won the Copa Libertadores, something their men would never get close to achieve, so hard to feel much sympathy.
