At last he stood before his half brother, and did let a small smile break through, for he knew all he needed already about Zagreus. He tried to discern what knowledge of this the other boy had, but Zagreus only seemed pleased, either of graduating, or being given this assignment Odysseus could not tell. Given Zagreus’ happy go lucky nature, it could well be both. He returned to his position at the front of the formation, where Shoji and Kyoko still stood, and turned to Atlas, nodding. “Tell them to fall out.” He turned, hearing Atlas giving the orders for his new squad, and returned to the seats with his father, brother and sister, and all but fell into his seat. He watched as the newly made spartan scouts followed Atlas.... somewhere. Odysseus made a mental note to find out where later, even as the two battalions were given their final marching orders as well. “What was all this for, Father?” Odysseus asked, as the people dispersed, not expecting an answer. But as Kronos stood to leave, he did address his Lord Scout. “You show me the answer to that question, my son. Fate has been placed in your hands, disappointment or greatness now lies before you.”

Odysseus’ eyes widened as he stared down upon the squad and his uncle, stunned in place, wondering if he had fallen asleep and this was some strange dream. “What is...” “Do not keep your troops waiting, my son.” Kronos cut him off, not looking away from the field. “My scouts await your inspection.” Odysseus’ jaw clenched, as he slowly stood, wondering, as he moved towards Atlas, exactly his father was playing at. The entire time, Shoji and Kyoko did not leave his side, no doubt adding to the strangeness of the scenario for the onlookers. When Odysseus finally stood before Atlas, the commander’s spear fell, as did the spears of Dienekes Squad. The spears of his spartans. Odysseus looked up at the war veteran that was now assigned to him. His uncle, the leader of his fathers personal guard. An absolute asset in every way; loyal, wise and strong. So why in the entire rotting duat was he standing before him now? With seven fresh young spartans behind him. His gaze shifted for a moment to Zagreus, who stood at the head of this squad. His half brother, another gift from his father, hoping for some explanation on the young mans face, but it was just as stoney and expressionless as any Spartan in formation would give.

“Dienekes Squad, Perseus Iota Battalion, FALL OUT!” His voice boomed, and there was a shifting of metal on the battalion positioned to the left of the field, as seven spartans moved as a cohesive group to fall in line in front of Atlas. Two lines of six formed, with the seventh between and off to the right in front of Atlas, and Odysseus’ eyes squinted as recognition set in at the sight of his half brother and his squad. He turned to his father for some sort of clarification, and received none. “For bravery, skill, competency, quick thinking and responsive action, you have been earmarked for special assignment.” Atlas declared to the recruits, loud enough for the whole field to hear. The spartans hit their shields with their spears three times in unified tandem in response, but otherwise were physically statues to the news. “From today onward, you will serve with me under direct command of our lord, fulfilling all duties asked of us, upon pain of death. His battles are ours, our victories are his glory.” Again the three rhythmic strikes of spear on shield. Atlas, spun on his heels and lifted his spear high in the direction of the podium, the squad behind him hit their spears once more against their shields before mimicking the action. “Your spartans await inspection...Lord Scout Odysseus.”

Noticing the High Lords, and Lady had sat, the many officials of Kronos’ private army, as well as the recruits attending family members took their seats, as the Drill Instructors for both battalions called the recruits into attention, and thus the ceremony had begun. It much went as the very few military ceremonies Odysseus had to attend in the past went, and the young lord found himself fighting sleep, a handful of times snapping awake, having not even noticed he had begun to doze, by musical fanfare, or by the young spartans hitting their shields in response to one speaker or another. After a while, First Inspection began and Pericles and Hydna walked down to check the troops at the behest of their liege lord. A ceremonious act, but then the entire thing was a farcical ceremony to Oddysseus’ eyes. However, as Pericles called all to attention and he and Hydna turned to their father, the ceremony did not end as it usually would. Instead, Kronos turned and nodded to someone off to the side. Odysseus’ eyes narrowed in a suspicious confusion, as he watched Atlas, his uncle and leader of his Fathers hippeas, take the field. Hydna and Pericles, the latter of whom handed off authority of the formation, fell back to their seats, and Atlas centered himself between the battalions.

“Very well,” Kronos said, turning to address his three children. “Will you not join me in witnessing the graduation of my dear Spartans?” The three children bowed to their liege lord and father, giving their affirmation. Though all were surprised at what came next. Kronos gestured to the two shinobi, then up towards the platform, “And of course, we cannot assume the Lord Scout would travel without his loyal shadows.” Odysseus side eyed his father curiously, as Pericles mirrored a similarly shocked expression. But Kronos had already turned, and was striding upwards to his seat. Odysseus turned to Kyoko and Shoji, their thoughts and expressions completely overtaken by the grotesque visage of the tengu. He gestured forward and, after his two siblings, walked upward. At the top, Kronos gestured to his right. “Odysseus, my son, please take the place of honor for this ceremony.” Odysseus was not confused outright by the gesture, but by the fact that his elder siblings did not react to this request, having already taken their seats on the other side of their Father. “Why?” “Why indeed?” Kronos met his gaze with what could have been an amused expression. “Perhaps you shall see soon enough.”

Pericles choked on the water he was drinking, though Hydna, somewhat oblivious of the pointedness of the comment, responded good naturedly, “You know I thought that sometimes too.” Kronos' smile never faltered, as he placed his hands slowly behind his back. “All gifts have their place, my son. Even a venomous tongue. A lesson I hope you one day learn, that you learn the time and place to wield such a weapon properly.” “As you are well aware, Father, I have never had difficulty learning to wield a weapon before.” Odysseus clicked. “Indeed.” Kronos said, sounding increasingly pleased with himself. “I am sure some day soon you will be able to verbally battle the best of even the senate floor to a standstill, your brother included.” “Epicurus is easy to beat, Father.” Hydna gave a loud snort. “Just talk over him.” “An effective bludgeon, for sure.” Kronos admitted. “But would not hold well among the floors of the parthenon, I assure you, my daughter.” “If I may.” Pericles interrupted, as Hydna opened her mouth to speak. “All preparations have been made, and we can move forward with the ceremony, at your command, Father.”

At the foot of the steps, leading upwards to the High Nobles seats, stood Kronos, speaking softly to Hydna and Pericles, all three stopping and turning at the sight of Odysseus. “My son.” Kronos spoke softly, meeting Odysseus' eyes with his usual soft smile. It made Odysseus suddenly crave to add a visor to his armor. “I must say you look positively intimidating, not only in the Lord Scouts armor, that fits you so naturally one would think it a part of you, but also with those frightful tengu loyally at your side. “Indeed, Father.” Odysseus clicked, meeting the mans gaze, not at all happy with how positively pleased with himself Kronos seemed. “With the strength and skill of the yokai, truly my reach will range far and wide.” “Now that you have finally taken your place at the House's Pantheon, your arrows shall travel so far as to rival that of the old goddess Artemis.” Kronos agreed, as Odysseus rolled his eyes, already sick of all the allegory. “I must admit, sometimes I look upon my twin and wonder how she could have possibly come from your genes, and then your performative side shows with such ridiculous banter leaving your mouth.” Odyssey said dryly.

At the opposite end of the palace to Odysseus’ room and Delos, stretching deep into the acropolis, was House Irikaldis’ Parade Fields. Large enough to hold the entirety of Kronos’ Spartans forces, and with room to expand, today it only held two battalions, positioned close to the palace itself. The graduating spartans stood before rows of chairs that housed Irikaldis’ various military officers, and members of the families of the Spartans. At the center of both battalions, and the seats, was a large platform, with four chairs, one larger and more grandiose than the other three, and the Iraklidis Banners displayed proudly along the bottom, raised high enough for the House Lord to look over his troops in their entirety. The field was full of pre-action buzz, with a scattering of different groups set about speaking to one another, as servants and soldiers prepared for the main event. Even the trainees, though still in formation, spoke among themselves.

“The ceremony being moved up is obviously for Mothers benefit.” Odysseus clicked his tongue, unbuckling his armor. He did not ask for Hesiodios’ assistance, nor did the man offer it, he knew it was pointless when Odysseus was like this. Once the chest piece was removed, he tossed it aside with a grunt, muscles straining. “That much makes sense. But why, in all of the duat and beyond, do I need to be involved?” “You are Lord Scout of House Iraklidis.” Hesiodios said flatly. “A position that, during the bygone ages of combat and conquest, was a member of the military, as they were the head of the House's scouts.” “There are no scouts.” Odysseus snarled, tossing his gauntlets at the table. “Indeed.” Hesiodios began, pointedly, as he slowly gathered the abandoned pieces of armaments. “Venus, followed in the footsteps of Mercury, and our wise pharaoh of that age, and disbanded their scouts, the duat finally settled. As did all other worlds...with the exception of Mars, of course.” Odysseus paused mid movement, things clicking into place and groaned heavily into his hands. “The shinobi.” he rubbed both hands through his hair, clicking his tongue. “I have been turned into a novelty piece in his chess set.”

Odysseus grunted. “I will need sleep, even if only a few hours.” “And a shower as well.” Diogenes snorted, waving his hand over his nose. “You have a moment, however briefly, to collect yourself as you see fit.” Epicurus declared, standing smoothly, placing his fists behind his back. “Your...servants are down in the armory, preparing the armor of your station and are to bring it forward post haste.” “Further, I have given Hesiodios instructions on how to prepare you.” Diogenes noted, also standing. “But I will be stepping in closer to the ceremony to run you through a handful of things, before taking you to the drill fields.” “Will you and Epicurus be attending as well?” Odysseus sneered. “No, little brother. We are not invited.” Epicurus gave a tight smile in return. “It is a military matter.” Diogenes shrugged. “Outside of our purview.” “And mine.” Odysseus snarled. “Apparently, not anymore.” Epicurus sneered.

You can ask them, but they’re busy at the moment, considering.” “Fine.” Odysseus clicked his tongue. “When is this ceremony?” Diogenes lazily checked his slab screen. “Twelve hours.” Odysseus tightened the fist he rested his head on, knuckles going white. “I have only just returned home from a previous assignment. Why so soon?” “We can only speculate the mind of our Father.” Diogenes shrugged dismissively. “One would assume that it is the same reasoning that has informed all of Fathers decisions regarding you this past month.” Epicurus noted, with a sigh. “Preparations for the gala, and your interactions with the visiting Heir Apparent.”

“Of course, dear brother.” Epicurus said, moving to the third couch, and pulling out his own slab, straightening his back, and reciting rather officially, “Taking in the wise counsel of our lord, High Archon Kronos of Irakildis, War Strategist Pericles, and House Champion Hydna have moved live combat for the Perseus Theta and Perseus Iota Battalions forward. Both Battalions have passed with fine colors and therefore shall graduate and receive formal assignments.” “This does not fall into my purview as Master of the Hunt.” Odysseus noted, clicking his tongue, while resting his head on a fist, tension building behind his eyes. “Why am I being informed?” “It does fall into your purview as Lord Scout.” Diogenes noted, sipping from his wine. “Though only in rare circumstances.” “Such as at the behest of your House Lord.” Epicurus noted, tucking the slab away. “Aaah.” Odysseus grunted, everything clicking into place. “Father wishes me present. Why?” Epicurus’ smile tightened. “Father did not think it important to inform us of such information.”

Ren. A name spoken in fear, contempt, dread, and safety. Her enigmatic presence pairs well with her choice of being a woman of a few words - she is what some would call... a Bodyguard. A sellsword with the specific goal to protect. Though her attitude presents her as cold, a deep passion lurks beneath; she outs her entire being in keeping an employer safe. For what reason? What reason does there need to be? A life is a life, and a death does not look good on the protector. Her face shows her heritage very well, and her crystal necklace contrasts nicely with her skin, her clothes, and most importantly, the reds of her coat. Since she is meant to embody a tsundere-like figure, I wanted her design to operate on juxtapositions and contrasts. Cool demeanor, elegant outfit - means she takes her presentation seriously, means she cares. She cares but she has a cold outside? Contrast abound. Ren's design is meant to evoke both stylish, roguish, and fantasy. She is tough but feminine. Strong but light. Like the weapon she wields, she's precise and deadly, with a refined and elegant disposition. Her reds are very, very fun. This design sheet highlights the intricacies of her outfit, and the specific choices made to land where we are. All of the rivets and studs are punkish but also evocative of brigandine armor - like she's not compromising between aesthetics and protection. The armor pieces are there to reinforce her role rather than act as any critical defense pieces. They're form and function, but not function by itself.

“Which is greatly appreciated, dearest brother.” Diogenes jumped in, shooting a warning to Epicurus. Odysseus rolled his eyes, and crossed his arms, closing them both off. It was clear that they required something from him. Or brought a message from Father or an older sibling and drew the short straws of delivering the news. Epicurus’ expression tightened to a condescending smile, and gave a sarcastically apologetic bow. “Of course, I ask your forgiveness, Lord Hunter. How went your efforts in Spitinios? Do you bring glory home to House Iraklidis?” “Though Lady Cressida is injured, we both took down our query, removing two more Chimera from Venus.” Odysseus reported, moving further inward to the chambers, arms still tightly crossed. “High Archon Katerina held me in a place of honor in the celebratory feast.” “A most beneficial outcome.” Epicurus complimented condescendingly, with his annoyingly polite grin.
