Funny how one a few weeks ago everyone was talking about how long a baseball game was going. I feel like we can have the opposite discussion about the cricket now.

Running old pipeline (ok, it's only a few months old - but that feels like a lifetime ago at this point) and wasn't sure which detection model I'd used.

Luckily past-Lachie had this in mind and provided a log file that contained the model name, AND a full file path! Sometimes that guy is alright.

Now that we're back from travel my wife is obviously thinking of the next trip. She keeps telling me that she's investigating South Korea as a destination. I keep telling her that she can just say "Korea", I will assume the south.

I did it again. @globias.bsky.social #GloBIAS2025

Here's hoping I get a chance again next year.

Went to the driving range for the first time in ages, and they've updated to have ball tracking. On the one hand, I love data! On the other hand, I don't really like what the data says about my game.

Looking up prices of stationery and regretting that I didn't buy more in Japan. ✒️

Also, I think I like EF nibs now...

When I realise I have to leave Japan tomorrow and my normal life doesn't include 24 hour ramen.

On my way to Tokyo.

I know it's probably confirmation bias, but I swear I can recognise LLSM data on sight.
Continuing our speed theme at #InsightFromImaging, we spent the afternoon at the microscope exploring imaging speed, as well as tradeoffs in imaging scale. Video featuring imaging of neutrophil-like HL60 cells on a widefield vs the AIC's LLSM.

Holidays are great for escaping reality. But you can never escape laundry.

Farewell Kobe! Thanks @globias.bsky.social , I've had a great time, met some cool people, caught up with old friends, had some productive discussions, drank some sake. What more could you want from a conference?

Kanpai!
Day one of @globias.bsky.social symposium. Analysis and sake is a surprisingly good pairing.

I did a thing. Same restaurant, 15 years and 4 days later.

Bought a new fountain pen and ink, but made the strategic mistake of accepting the offer of doing it duty free. Now I can't use it until I get home!

Still get kind of nervous when I'm travelling solo. But I got here, and I got ramen.

Weird to think that this time tomorrow I'll be in Kobe

I feel so grown-up using try/except and actually catching errors and dealing with them. Of course my solution causes another error. It's errors all the way down.

My house is about to be invaded by ten kids between the ages of ten and thirteen.

I'm tired in advance.

I leave for Japan in exactly one week. I feel like I have not given this enough thought.

My youngest got sent home from school because he was "feeling unwell". I'm working from home today and now he's here. I wonder if I can convince him annotate a cellpose model for me....

I wish, just ONE time, that I could install cuda, cudnn, and pytorch, without it taking me 15 attempts and core dumps

Hard not to feel old when things I owned are in literal museum displays. I played the original on a Mac classic after school while my Mum was in staff meetings. I honestly believe that it is at least partially the reason I ended up where I am today - but that's a long story.
