Having worked in film my 2 cents are that making a film is just sooo much less complicated. What’s in the (2d) frame is what counts. How you make a movie isn’t very relevant to how you make software.

I mean. It’s no excuse. I don’t expect any game buyer to accept a bad product or anything. It’s just the reality of game dev.

No matter how well we aim our 200 million dollar shot (or whatever it is), someone else that started a year earlier will release before us and possibly change the market. And thereby force adjustment. That’s not mismanagement.

Simplifying the reality of having to predict where technology is and what will be cool in 5 years down to mismanagement is a bit harsh I think.
