I'm looking for anonymous case studies for my upcoming book 'The Hormone Sensitive Brain'. I am keen to gather as many experiences as possible and have pulled together a questionnaire: drhannahshort.co.uk/the-hormone-...

If anyone would like to complete/share it, I'd be so grateful. Thank you #PMDD
Delighted to come across this paper during my book research: a resounding YES from me!

PMDD awareness is suicide prevention. The fact that menstrual histories are rarely, if ever, taken in patients presenting to psychiatry is tantamount to medical negligence. mentalhealth.bmj.com/content/28/1...
The menstrual cycle: an overlooked vital sign in psychiatry?
We argue that psychiatry has overlooked a significant modifiable risk factor for mental illness in female patients: cyclical symptoms associated with the menstrual cycle. Premenstrual dysphoric disord...

Finally. But better late than never.

10. What is the relationship between hormonal fluctuations and mental health across the reproductive lifespan - from #PMS and #PMDD to menopause?

They're also looking at how hormonal cycles affect drug metabolism. Hugely important & nearly always overlooked.
This feels like progress 💙 PMDD is now part of the UK’s top 10 women’s health research priorities, highlighting the need to understand how hormonal fluctuations and other biopsychosocial processes shape mental health from menarche to menopause. So important to see this recognised. #PMDD

What did we find? 🔍

Our review points to a relevant association between stress and premenstrual symptomatology:
🔺Higher stress is linked to more severe symptoms
⤴️ Stress peaks during the luteal phase in individuals with PMS/PMDD
⚡ Trauma history associated with more than double the odds of PMS/PMDD

A 2025 systematic review & meta-analyses examining link between trauma and #PMS & #PMDD by the team @stresslabvienna.bsky.social led by @celinebencker.bsky.social

Helpful to have confirmed in research what those of us in clinical practice see on a daily basis. We now need to understand the 'why'.
How are #stress and premenstrual symptoms connected?
And are those with a #trauma history more likely to have #PMS or #PMDD? 🌩️

Our systematic review & three meta-analyses combine evidence from 66 studies to explore these questions.

Excited our work is finally out! ✨
