I think that a big part of the issue is that it's almost all that non eco psych people know of this philosophy, so it's banded around a lot and perpetuates in the literature

Whether the university is a company or not, I'm not doing research in a way that is directed by my employer, so I don't really feel they have any ownership over this arm of my job (we also have a policy like Western, but unclear if data=IP)
