Hedy is short for Hedwig, which as well as being the name of the Harry Potter owl, was a popular German and Polish name as Jadwiga in 1930s Europe - particularly as Poland harked back to King Jadwiga (yes, King) during a period of ultra-natuonalism in central Europe. I guess you had to be there.

You really don't. They are loud, strong and aggressive. They regularly out-compete indigenous species for food, and are intelligent enough to defeat plastic coverings on grain storage. They originate from Nepal/Himalayas so tolerate cold British weather. In large numbers in SW London/NE Surrey.
