I mean, part of the actual problem just comes from the fact that I don't think they truly planned for the game to last this long. I'm sure there were plans for future sequels down the line that changed as they kept going forward and developing for D2 instead

Welcome to trying to develop a game that looks as good as Destiny does without ballooning the file size to take up an entire console on it's own. It is unfortunate, but with where destiny is right now, I wouldn't recommend you start anyway xD
