True, but there’s absolutely also an element of enshittification as well. Mostly to my ears this is just more complaint about inflation, including the ways companies (including airlines) try to hide that your money buys less so they can keep making sales.

4 wasn’t THAT bad, and in fact had some of the return to hidden questing from 1 and 2. That said, the “streamlining” was rather atrocious, although thankfully mostly capable of being modded out (i.e., to get the fine-tuning skill system back.)

You gain voice and a platform in a democracy by voting, not just voting for the candidate who aligns exactly with your voice and platform. It’s not a direct process! Vote the best you can, and the politicians will move to you! And they’ll never be perfect, of course. Under any system.

What if I never believed the old version was the real her either? She’s a mass of ambition with the political instincts of a shark. Nothing I’ve seen has changed my perception of her, except I think she truly hated the dumb blonde persona.

The fact that they come back despite being voted out in 2020 reveals the part of this logic these people hate: it’s a constant struggle and effort, and it’s designed to be that way. There is no convenient democracy.

Sometimes I think what would make these people maddest of all wouldn’t be the Other Side winning, but the Other Side failing due to the presence of safeguards already in place and the fundamental decency of ordinary people. It would leave them unfulfilled.
