Where are they going to? 58% of migrant departures of New Zealand citizens went to Australia. Going to a country with Fair Pay Agreements, a growing economy, low energy prices, and a capital gains taxation system. For some reason that doesn’t seem to so be unpopular.

Why can't he call the Sally Army like a normal person?! They will literally come with a truck and take stuff away for you, no weird awkwardness required.

Finishes with his top tips:

1. Just start. Start with what you have right now.
2. Stay consistent. Govts will come and go but we remain
3. Surround yourself with positive ppl.
4. No excuses.

Gives solid advice about connecting with companies online, their marketing team, their community development team, etc, so when you do connect its not a "cold call" they already have a sense for who your org is.

Shares that when he openly supported Toitū te Tiriti he lost a lot of his Pākehā financial supporters.

Says "What we do isn't just good for Māori, its good for everyone"

The room gives a solid murmur of support.

A quick overview of their community kitchen, flood relief work.

I reckon every org needs an outgoing, charismatic, and passionate person with ADHD to promote their work 🤣

Shares about working with MSD and leveraging his media contacts to put pressure on govt - notes that other groups without his profile face the same funding challenges but have less recourse to push back.
November 12, 2025 at 9:02 PM
It's a good point tho, the way govt contracts can be inflexible and stop orgs from providing support as and where its needed. Sometimes you just have to make it work for families.
November 12, 2025 at 9:00 PM
Now talking about the food share started, and the challenges of the first lockdown and how their govt funding didn't allow for flexibility of support. Called it "bureaucrap" 🤣 went on to say, "I don't deal with bureaucracy I just do it" 🤣 acknowledged his team who are the ones who deal with it now

Shares about how you have to diversify your funding and connect with businesses and philanthropy.

I do wonder tho, not everyone is charismatic and fun and energizing. Some of us are not so good at schmoozing and selling stories 🤔
November 12, 2025 at 8:56 PM
Back on track. Some solid motivational speaking about not underestimating the impact of helping just one person.

Shares about making gyms and programs free and how you can't rely on government funding.

Aside from me - listening to this I am getting solid ADHD vibes but maybe I just spend too much time in neurodivergent circles 😂
November 12, 2025 at 8:53 PM
Shared some stories about his childhood, then working in Australia and earning and spending money, now sharing about starting BBM in Auckland.
November 12, 2025 at 8:50 PM
I haven't been to a UK church so couldn't comment on that 🤣
November 12, 2025 at 8:44 PM
Oohh maybe?!! And of having parents who were less traumatizing and more supportive in general?
November 12, 2025 at 8:43 PM
Notes that when he does advocate suddenly MSD/WINZ shows up and its "raining vouchers". But that's only 1 family and there are hundreds and thousands of families in similar situations being ignored or treated as unworthy of assistance.
November 12, 2025 at 8:42 PM
Now he's sharing stories about people asking for help, living in grim poverty, living in emergency housing, loving in cars, and engaging in advocacy within the system. Gets a laugh when he says MSD/WINZ has asked him to go to them first instead of the news 🤣
November 12, 2025 at 8:40 PM
Reiterates a statement

"If you can help, you should."

Tangents off about encouraging people to be successful and wealthy but that we should use that to help others
November 12, 2025 at 8:38 PM
Dave going hard on politicans who claim "It's their choice" as a way to avoid supporting ppl. He notes that choice assumes equal starting points for everyone - and that's not the reality for many who are born into struggle.
November 12, 2025 at 8:37 PM
Heh. You probably have less baggage to work through tho 🤣
