Importantly, we advocate for the practical expansion or alteration of visitation policies to ensure the greatest number of visits during a prison stay. Social support systems are crucial across many contexts.

We find that high-rate visits in the year before release is associated with lower odds of major/minor parole violations in the year after release, but has a lukewarm relationship with misconduct preceding release. We argue that a possible threshold effect is present that requires further attention.
