That was the moment I audibly groaned in the cinema and pretty much checked out. I was there for the flashy lights and jangling keys at that point.
They took a part of Rey I really liked and just went "Nah, the culture war idiots didn't like it, so we retconned it"

I was so annoyed watching that in the cinema.
It would have sucked if he died, but if you're going to do it, commit. Or hold the reveal for longer.

I think he got a good ending though IIRC. Didn't he get called back by the wizards and allowed to return to the Unseen University after a life of what was essentially exile?

I don't think they'll be around in 10 years. Maybe not even 5. They were looking to be bought up and no-one seemed to bite. They've been doing nothing but the same game for a decade now. They took a slam dunk of "AC Black Flag, but its own IP" and ruined it.

I gave up when I heard it was a prequel where you create your own character...and it's a live service open world game.
