Pollution been an issue for so long in New Delhi that the city’s famous Red Fort is turning black, an outward sign of a growing health and political crisis that’s now bringing angry residents onto the streets. https://cnn.it/4oiebPc

A designer posted this and all I can see is the pile of short-life things people put on the kerb on household bulky waste clean-up day. A career in landfill.

Gary Bartz at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival #MIJF last night - what a wonderful evening of joyous-and at times, transcendent- music! Supported brilliantly by local musicians led by Barney McCall!

Same here. Handed to external consultants - patronising, trite, tin-eared, irrelevant + mostly useless. I feel for those at UTS going through this, given its unlikely many academics involved will ever get a permanent full-time job in the sector again.

Wear those undies on the outside as protest!
Somewhere in this Australian university, some well-paid HR people (and consultants, there's always consultants) thought that it was good idea to tell staff worried they might be made redundant that they should hand-wash their good undies to cope with the stress. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-08...
Uni staff told to 'wash delicates' for stress management as 146 courses suspended
The University of Technology Sydney is suspending more than 100 courses as it prepares for a controversial redundancy program to save $100 million.

Well, well, whoda thunk it?
“The AI in the study probably prompted doctors to become over-reliant on its recommendations, ‘leading to clinicians becoming less motivated, less focused, and less responsible when making cognitive decisions without AI assistance,’ the scientists said in the paper.”
AI Eroded Doctors’ Ability to Spot Cancer Within Months in Study
Artificial intelligence, touted for its potential to transform medicine, led to some doctors losing skills after just a few months in a new study.

And a tragic last minute (literally last minute) loss for the Wallabies in front of 90000 at the MCG. A fantastic game nevertheless!

Read + weep. Academia is now deep in the enshittification zone: the drive to publish to stay alive in academia; the need to be highly cited; the greed of academic publishers; the increasing use of LLM AIs; and peer reviewers who can't spot the bleeding obvious.

Took my Sustainable Operations students from Insight Academy for a walk in the Jawbone marine reserve at Williamstown, Victoria last week. Its a perfect place to talk sustainability: the worst of our industrialised world and the best of environmental preservation and reconstruction starkly contrast!
