Nah you're actually 100% right here, we are very unabashedly inspired by Bit Trip, specifically beat and flux! The original concepting doc spells this out very clearly with the bounce notes.
I had never heard about bit trip gravity, though, that's super cool! Wonder what it would have looked like..
