I'm proud to have contributed a migration-governance strategy to this important plan for building new economic and political relations between Canada and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean in the absence of the United States. Some details...

Lost in the tumult is the fact that he put a sign on the door of the Oval Office. Not that it is poorly gilded plastic with a typeface last used for drag-queen wedding invitations in 1983. That he felt it needed a sign. Like the Eiffel Tower needing a 30-meter neon sign reading “The Eiffel Tower”

“We’re sorry we edited the part of your speech where you incited an insurrectionary riot with the other part of your speech where you incited an insurrectionary riot, and focused on the insurrectionary riot rather than the minor and irrelevant edit”

(Is still more than necessary)

I decided to press on, because its utter inability to edit interested me. I proposed it code a bash script to use spellcheck software such as aspell, taking LLM out of the equation. It then fabricated MORE text!

It was honest about this being a case of context rot. But it couldn't remedy it.

Over the summer, I asked it to copy-edit a 20,000-word document (not related to my newspaper work). "Only spelling and basic grammar errors." Within a few hundred words, it had fabricated entire cheeseball sentences about "liminal zones" and then copy-edited those WRONGLY. It couldn't do the job.

While researching my current column, I had trouble finding something PM Carney said in a speech in either Factiva or Google, so I tried asking ChatGPT-5 to search for it. This was its internal response.

It hallucinates in basic searches. It can't write truth. It can't copyedit. What is it good for?

A hypothetical I never would have considered was “Imagine if the American with the very worst record of managing construction projects were singularly responsible for the building most symbolic of democracy and decided to do his thing with both it and what it symbolizes”

Given that Wayne Gretzky’s wines should be infra dig for any self-respecting Canadian on both political and oenological grounds, it’s refreshing to see this development (from the usually excellent Tawse winery)

This art work on display at Schönleinstaße U-Bahn in Berlin is titled “Deconstructing Narratives” and it literally runs pages of scripts continuously through a shredder.

Art on public transit is to be encouraged, but this one leaves no forehead unsmitten

Who do Canadians regard as an “enemy”? This comes from a new Angus Reid report on India, but get a look at the redder end of that list

(Red = enemy/threat; pink = maybe so)
