Okay, I have to be very careful how I say this.
Tomorrow will be my first time singing in Carnegie Hall, as a member of the choir in Beethoven's 9th Symphony for a private event in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. And yes, there was some practice involved in getting there.

I snuck a photo of the bows at the Lúnasa concert this evening - they were fantastic!

Whatcha readin' this week? I'm still catching up on books I've finished earlier this year. Or rather, for this week, one that I didn't finish. God, I hated this book! I disagreed with his arguments so strongly, that I found myself questioning my own opinions when they coincided with his.

Coming up in two weeks - I'll be back in Toronto, singing the solos in "Messiah" with Leslie Fagan, Catherine Wyn-Rogers, Colin Ainsworth, and my friends in the Elmer Iseler Singers. Friday, December 12th, 7:30 pm, Yorkminster Park Baptist Church.

Looking after a friend's cat, and coaching with another friend has drawn me to this part of the neighbourhood in the last few days, so I went on a search for Alexander Hamilton's house, and its previous locations.
It's not that often that you have to track a house's previous addresses!

The moment when you finish one notebook and start another...

"And the inner voice said "Write!", and I replied "Yeah, but what will I write?". And the voice said "Write anything! We can fix it in post, but you can't edit a blank page.".

And so off I go to make marks in the snow of a fresh page...

Fun discovery today - 57th St.-7th Avenue is the closest station to Carnegie Hall. On my way back home, I noticed the tiles on the walls - various famous figures are celebrated with their name, their profession(s), and the date of when they first appeared at Carnegie Hall.

I fell down a hobbit-hole* of recordings of Petra Haden, Alison Krauss, and Lady Moon this week.
*I know the standard term is 'rabbit hole', but this is a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.

I'm asking those who love the outdoors to post a picture. A picture that YOU took. Just a pic. No description. The goal is to regain peace and harmony without negativity. Ultimately changing the algorithms. Please copy the text, put a picture on YOUR page, and let's look at these beautiful pictures.

Whatcha readin' this week? "All the Light we Cannot See", by Anthony Doerr. A beautiful novel of courage and resilience set against the backdrop of World War II.

And for those of you wondering what I was doing down where the streets have names - I went to the Fountain Pen Hospital to drop off a Lamy with a caligraphic nib that wasn't writing very well, and went back today to pick it up. It fills my heart with joy to know that places like this still exist!

emmettpalaima.com/CHAMBERS-HUM A new New York discovery for me - I've known about the Hum at Times Square (though I haven't checked it out yet), but I'd never heard of the Hum at the Chambers Street station on the A and C lines. First time I've ever got out and encountered it!

Some photos and signs from yesterday's "No Kings" march. 7 million people across the United States exercised their first amendment right to express their opinion that the current US government is headed in the wrong direction.

Listening to the baseball game always reminds me of my Dad. When he went blind in the early 1980s, baseball was one of the few sports that he could still follow because the radio commentary was so good.

Been thinking of him a lot in the last few weeks as the Blue Jays chase the dream again...
