In 2022, the #ChinaIndex showed 45% of measured countries had at least one of their top 5 social media apps linked to the PRC. In the latest edition, that figure has jumped to 65%.

1/ One example: AI-generated images mocking President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (PBBM) & admin-backed senators amplified by the networks of accounts with coordinated profile photos & hashtags.

6/ Both active and inactive TikTok users reject pro-unification narratives, and a slight majority say they would be willing to defend Taiwan. Still, active users are more likely to believe that unification wouldn’t change everyday life.

A recent investigation reveals a Facebook account attempting to recruit Taiwanese individuals with ties to sensitive sectors such as the military, police, and critical infrastructure (including Chunghwa Telecom). Meta Ad Library records show the ads were paid for by a company based in the PRC.
