IIRC, that is because Barbie licensing at the time was very strict; also Barbie lives in the Barbie-verse, and does not LEAVE it.
I collected these back when they came out because the fashion art was *excellent* & also loved the various Katy Keene/Millie the Model/Patsy Walker type fashion comics.
