I worked at Amazon, where we were judged against something called the Leadership Principles. Sounds logical, right? Except… they contradict each other.

You never knew which principle would be used to justify praise - or punishment - until after the fact.
This document outlines Amazon’s 14 corporate Leadership Principles, used to evaluate employee performance, guide decision-making, and assess candidates. The principles are: Customer Obsession – Start with the customer and work backward. Focus on earning and keeping customer trust over watching competitors. Ownership – Act like owners: think long-term, don’t sacrifice future value for short-term gains, and never say “that’s not my job.” Invent and Simplify – Encourage innovation, seek outside ideas, and simplify processes, accepting potential misunderstanding. Are Right, A Lot – Use strong judgment and instincts. Seek out diverse perspectives and challenge your own beliefs. Learn and Be Curious – Never stop learning or exploring new ideas. Self-improvement is continuous. Hire and Develop the Best – Raise the bar with every hire. Nurture talent and invent systems to support growth, like Career Choice. Insist on the Highest Standards – Maintain extremely high quality and expectations. Identify defects and fix root issues. Think Big – Inspire with bold visions. Take risks, anticipate customer needs, and imagine new solutions. Bias for Action – Speed matters. Take calculated risks, especially when decisions are reversible. Frugality – Achieve more with less. Constraints are strengths. Avoid bloated budgets or teams. Earn Trust – Listen well, speak candidly, and admit mistakes. Treat others with respect and benchmark against the best. Dive Deep – Stay involved in the details. Audit often and challenge inconsistencies between data and anecdotes. Have Backbone; Disagree and Commit – Respectfully challenge decisions, even when difficult. Once a decision is made, commit fully. Deliver Results – Focus on key business inputs, maintain quality, overcome setbacks, and deliver consistently. These principles are positioned as foundational and apply across all roles, influencing how success is defined and enforced within Amazon.

Something about her - black fur, pale undercoat - feels like an eclipse mid-glow. I’d name her Midna, after the ruler of the Twilight Realm in Zelda. Shadow and light, sly and soft. She looks like she knows something you don’t.

This was hilarious, but I wanted to reference Maximumble's comic (maximumble.thebookofbiff.com/comic/1942-a...) since this one made me think of it.

Just putting this one out there for the peeps who are unfamiliar with aphantasia, or don't see an apple when asked:

This art style made me immediately think of #finalfantasytactics concept art and promotional art. Very nice work.
