For sure, inspired me to get a guitar.
After hearing me listening to it my mother had to read all the liner notes to ensure it wasn’t “satanic”. I am pretty sure it made no sense to her but it didn’t say swear words or “we love satan” directly so I was allowed to keep the album. 90s man.

Oh man this one is great. I first heard Faith No More because my mother finally let my sister and I do a Columbia House “8 CDs for a penny” deal; we split it and she ordered a Faith Hill (ha) album but they sent FNM’s “album of the year” on accident. Changed my life.

favorite thing about U2 is the “The Edge”, as a kid I first heard that name and thought “this MFer must shred your face off! Like Tony Iommi on speed” then you hear glistening harmonics, understated reverb, chimes… the edge of a Lisa Frank trapper keeper.
Record still hits though, great stuff.

Death logistics are one of the tougher parts of loss. Sounds like you’ve got a clear head though, good on you. Sorry about the eventual parting, it’s tough.

I keep coming back to it in gaps between other things. I think an acknowledging the repetition and building systems on top of it was really smart.

If the bass and drums seem backgrounded, the swirling, constantly strummed guitars and raspy howls are up front, probably black metal.

Side note, this has me listening to Death’s The Sound of Perseverance and damn… still incredible.

94? I’d say it was close to Satyricon, Immortal, Emperor, or maybe Darkthrone if babysitter was hip as hell since those semifinal albums came out around then.
