The new crime bill does a lot of things but this is the part that worries me the most. If a defendant has three or more convictions (including class 1 misdemeanors) in the past ten years, a judge simply cannot give them an unsecured bond. They must pay money bail to get out.

I read a CNN article about the GOP crime bill named after the woman murdered on the bus in Charlotte. That was a mistake.

With all the caveats about how I am not on X nor do I listen to any of these people's podcasts, this kind of rhetoric appears to have become standard fare on the MAGA right. I have two reactions to that.

I took the liberty of looking up the paperwork for Decarlos Brown's robbery plea. There's just nothing here to support the idea that he got a sweetheart deal. Nobody used their discretion to let this guy out.
