Just finished this fabulous book, ‘Designing Hope’ by @sarahhousley.bsky.social, looking through the lenses of four emerging futures. Read it in just a few days - it felt like a neat summary of many of the things I’ve been reading over the past few years in the search for ways out of the polycrisis.

Took the #drone out today and got 20m of flight time, capturing the sun setting over the South Downs. Beginning to develop more confidence in my abilities to navigate and fly the thing by now, its 5th proper flight. It’s interesting how much our countryside becomes ‘managed farmland’ from up there.

A little history tonight on The Thursday Night Show, as I take a look at Aug 14th in music. Join me on ttns.uk in the chatroom from 23:00 (UK time) for a highly eclectic music of tunes from several continents and decades.

Have held on to this faded 1946 edition of ‘Hiroshima’ by John Hersey of The New Yorker for years without reading it. Tonight, the 80th anniversary of the world’s first atomic bombing, I read it in full, in one sitting - the book a retelling of the stories of 6 survivors. What utter hell it all was.

Might be my third week in a row on the radio, which is not common these days.

Tonight (23:00 UK time), I will be doing my second ‘Filling In The Gaps’ set, where I will be playing tracks that I missed out on at the time from the first two decades of the 21st Century. Join me in the chat at ttns.uk

Finished reading Isabella Tree’s ‘Wilding’ yesterday, a remarkable book about one of Britain’s biggest experiments with #rewilding, at the #Knepp estate in Sussex. Fascinating as the tales of rewilding were, there was also so much rich information about nature to learn about from this book too.

For The Thursday Night Show’s 13th birthday tonight, I shall be joining in the celebrations with playing some of the oddest cuts from the deepest recesses of my collection. Expect off-the-wall Beatles, unusual mashups and even a bit of swearing! ttns.uk from the earlier time of 20:00 (UK time).

Tonight, TTNS is officially a teenager! Join us from 17:00 UK time for a cluster of DJs going purposefully weird in the music we’ll be playing. Find us in the chatroom on ttns.uk and help us celebrate our 13th birthday. I’m on at 20:00. #InternetRadio

Tonight on ttns.uk at 23:00 UK time, my fellow Nighthawk and I will be delving into the almost forgotten genre of spouge, which emerged out of Barbados at a similar time to reggae’s emergence in Jamaica. We might even be featuring some special guests too. Join us at the diner counter, won’t you?

A powerful start to the day as I bore witness to a small group of animal puppets and their human puppeteers from #TheHerds as they visited London.

Their journey runs from the Congo Basin to the Arctic Circle.

Met the creator too and thanked him for his vision.

Will have to up my game here. Talking at one of my fave conferences, our annual #HCID event, on ‘Battling Monsters for Credit’ (June 24th). Part of an event on the role of design in paradigm shifts, mine’s about interdisciplinary climate education.

Just finished a pretty remarkable book - ‘Imagination: A Manifesto’ by @ruha9.bsky.social.

I have a strong feeling that some of the ideas in this will find its way into my future work, hopefully to support others to open their imaginations.

Thanks to @rachelcoldicutt.bsky.social for the pointer…

Spent y’day on an 8-mile hike around #Knepp estate, one of Britain’s best known examples of #rewilding. Saw the white storks, the deer, & the weather was glorious. As I roamed the place, I was struck by nature’s relationship with time - both fast enough to show abundance & slow enough to show ages.

What a week! VIP treatment from Jisc as a Community Champion Pioneer at Digifest, sliding back into teaching on my climate change module in the middle, and a day at RIDE2025 at the end. 16 trains in total and *so* many good people + ideas 😊 A weekend first, to decompress and then process…
