From 🇬🇮, Live in Manchester. No, I'm not coping well with the rain. 🤣

Getting to the end of Counter X. Never read these X-Man issues before. It's essentially an X-Man team-up with the Authority and a nun with visions.

Back to the Bendis run. Took a break after Siege. The Heroic Age stories aren't as focussed, as the book is no longer driving the universe, but some of the individual arcs are fantastic and a lot of fun. I'm skipping Fear Itself itself for now as I will get to it on a Thor reread at some point.

Back to my 2000's Avengers reading this afternoon. Time for Slott's Mighty Avengers run, with Hank Pym leading as the Wasp. This team lasted between Secret Invasion and Siege.

Lazy Saturday reading, last year's Blood Hunt. Such a fun crossover and it holds up on a reread. I love Brielle, so it's fantastic to see her standing next to Carol fighting back. Also, the only time I've enjoyed that Dracula redesign. (I much prefer Gene Colan's version).

Wasn't 616 Manchester overrun with vampires last time we saw it?

And activate Summer!

Now on to Claremont's return to the #XMen. Reading my original copies from Spain released March to May 2001. I was 17 and also buying a weekly collection of comic volumes that reprinted the original Claremont run, which was released at the same time as the first film. That's a lot of words to read!

Exiles before #Exiles? This is from #XMen Unlimited 27. The back had unused art including this piece by then X-Man artist Mike S Miller showcasing #ageofapocalypse Blink & Morph having survived and joining Nate. Less than a year later that Blink and a slightly different Morph would form the Exiles.

I'm looking back on July's marvel comics I picked up and deciding what stays on the pull list, what I'll sell and what I'll keep...

This has a few of my fave indie titles. #MinorArcana is building pace and I'm in now. #AssortedCrisisEvents just stay with you. All four issues have been incredible. And welcome back #Lazarus, you've been missed. I wish the world you were coming back to wasn't so familiar to you.

Here we go the end of my Bendis Avengers reread for now. #Siege. It's been so much fun. Really applaud Bendis character work with Luke, Jessica, Carol, Jess even Clint and Bobbi. Also, surprisingly, I'm thoroughly enjoying his Ares and Victoria Hand. And the art. Murderer's Row of talent.

We are at #SecretInvasion. Just reading the main series, both Avengers tie ins and the Thunderbolts ones. There's so much if we include the whole event 😂😂🥹

How's my #BendisAvengers reread going you say? Well I remembered how much I fancy Ares. The God of War. 😂

In all seriousness, past Civil War and it is different books with tweaked teams but the themes continue, and the banter definitely continues.

I'd forgotten about the 💭 experiment in Mighty.

Got to Civil War in my #BendisAvengers reread. It's been years since I've last read any of the crossover. I was thinking of skipping the crossover as it's not Bendis written, but it drives too much or the narrative to skip. I need to do a post on the first 20 issue of New Avengers at some point....

Decided to showcase some of the floppies...

Also George Pérez. To bring him back as a capstone to Volume 3 and all the classic runs is just perfect.

The double page spreads are all gorgeous but this one from David Mack with Vision and Scarlet Witch is a favourite. Especially after the previous issues.

And then we get this in #BendisAvengers. An absolute love letter to the original Avenger run. Definitely not expected after Disassembled. The Bendis trademark dialogue is on full display here and it works.

While impactful and successful at the time, considering all the deaths and incapacitations get reversed (some immediately, others take a loooooong time) this feels a little hollow as a reread now. Wanda just feels like a plot device and she wouldn't fully recover until Trial of Magneto in 2021.

However we do get a few great character moment. As problematic as Hank and Janet are, the scene of Giant-Man Hank carrying Falcon who in turn is carrying wasp size Janet got to me.
April 12, 2025 at 5:16 PM
It was also so brutal. She-Hulk, Scott Lang, Vision, Hawkeye, Janet, the new Captain Britain and Wanda all taken off the board.

It is also very male heavy once Janet is taken off the board. Only woman who gets something to do in later parts is Carol.

The remit was to end the Avengers, and this really did that. I just wish the villain had been old school Loki instead.

However it worked. There really was a sense of finality here and the start of well, something New. Great to see one last team shot of the expanded classic line-up.
April 12, 2025 at 5:10 PM
Another Prelude now to #BendisAvengers, Avengers 500 to 503. I really didn't like this when it came out. I'm a big Wanda and Janet fan, and they both do not come out of this well...

Also love how random it is that Luke Cage is responsible for Norman's downfall.

Great to see Bagley on art. His Green Goblin is amazing. Scott Hanna on inks and finishes and Pete Pantazis on colours.
