I don't think anywhere has fully escaped! They just seem to do economic and social policies much better than the rest of us

I agree the centre left turn toward neoliberal ideas was bad economics which alienated and angered voters. But we have seen the extreme right gain prominence even in Scandinavian countries which have far greater social democracy. So there must be some additional reasons at play.

Social democracy is great! But it hasn't prevented democratic degeneration in Europe
