Sometimes I think about what an enigmatic person Smedley Butler was, and how much I would love to have a cup of coffee with him.

I love my dog.

I would spend myself into insolvency to keep her from yeeting herself over the rainbow bridge…

… mostly because she desperately wants to eat garbage, rather than her fancy expensive dog food.

My haunted house is filled with anxiety about what my dog’s poop means for my emergency savings.

If you haven’t donated to your local food bank in a hot minute, consider a grocery match. If you can swing it, match what you spend this month on groceries (even those quick stops for an ingredient you forgot) with an equal contribution to your local food bank.

If things keep heading down the rocky path their on, and retirees don’t get paid…

Ooof, baby.

Never think for a single second that every soldier doesn’t have the potential to go from a wheeled vehicle mechanic to a spot on a stage, in front of an international audience, to discuss the enduring lessons of warfare.

Yep, we’ll put an NCO on the stage. Great research is not limited to one type.

Back in the cat-bird seat for this year’s annual symposium with the @nationalwwimuseum.bsky.social, “Beyond the Trenches,” watching the opening presentation from @markstout.bsky.social about American intelligence community during WWI!

Wish you were here.

Thinking about how Pres. Johnson attempted to get CBS journalist, Morley Safer, fired after he reported about the burning of Cam Ne in 1965 by a Marine patrol.

And how the president of CBS defended Safer, even when Johnson inferred Safer was working for the communists.

Just thinking… that’s it.

When you gotta bring that educational and promotional jazz for your museum to a conference, but you still gotta get that academic bread between the speakers.

Really?

Is this an Interwar Period?

Because I am deeply curious what war is coming up next.

Also, we have tickets for symposium available. Be there or be square.

Some days the world and the news seems overwhelming.

And then I remember that this painting survived two world wars and a massive state-directed art (and artist) purge at the hands of a violent autocratic dictatorship.

And it lives a couple miles from my doorstep, freely accessible to the public.

Words have meaning.

Last week, I was lucky to host the US Army IO Qual Course at the museum, where we discussed information advantage in national war museum spaces. A prominent factor was this concept of silences- gaps- in history, influencing HOW we create national narratives about war.
