I also like PopOS with the new COSMIC DE. It's supposed to come out of beta within a week? It's been VERY stable

Why mess with a great setup? Have you migrated to a newer iMac? I am still on my 2019 iMac but it has just crossed over into the "no-longer-supported-by-Apple" territory.

I am still using my no-screen wacom tablet.

When you turn off secure boot, are you saving the result, or just exiting w/o saving your changes? It's very difficult to tell sometimes. ALSO: try the USB in a different port. I've seen that make a difference as well.

I would start again: try re-making the USB installer, with a new download of www.linuxmint.com/download.php Do you have a different USB you could try it with? Did you use etcher.balena.io

Make backups of the info on your Windows drive, as it will all be deleted once you install Linux. Good luck :)

Well I’m glad you have a little bit of time remaining. No emergency pc solutions

OPTIONS #1: remove the hard drive and get an external case for it so you can retrieve your old art/college work. #2: Keep the mother board and hook it up to an external monitor you already have, but disconnect/remove the old laptop screen. How handy are you?

New drive perhaps? The Windows license is tied to the hardware. If you swap drives and you are unsuccessful, you can always swap the original drive back into place.

Can you wipe the laptop and reinstall Windows 11 without bitlocker? Maybe over the Christmas break

if you want to use MSPaint, try Pinta flathub.org/en/apps/com.... but yes, I like Krita quite a bit.

That top title bar would be less intrusive if you changed the mode to dark mode? If it was ALL dark, you might not notice it as much. Full screen mode vs split screen trade off?

My larger Wacom port is dodgey as well
November 3, 2025 at 10:59 PM
I use Wacom tablets. The one I currently have on my Linux set up is the small bamboo and it’s serviceable. Works just fine for under $100 CAD
