North America is a continent. South America is a continent. There is no continent called "America". Nobody else now refers to themselves as Americans. Stop telling people from other countries what to call themselves. This isn't done to any of the other ~200 countries in the world. It's trite.

It's probably my fault. Every time over the last several years, when I have encountered the "It's arrogant to call yourselves Americans" argument, l have demanded they tell me what the hell else would Americans call ourselves?" I guess someone decided to answer my rhetorical question.

I have to give a shout out to the English language athletics (track and field) international broadcast commentators as the first I heard using the new name, as they have done in the past.

The speculation was he was planning to slip out during the confusion of the "protest" outside his home with the intention of getting to the US embassy. Turnip would have given him asylum, but I have to think he would try to get someplace that wouldn't toss him back after the next election.

While at a small roadside outdoor restaurant in South Africa, I saw an angry and very overweight man who was about to berate the server (over the small portions, it turned out). I was like, "Please don't be American, please don't be American..." Baboom, Australian accent, prayer answered, lol.

Some GOP pundits and politicians a couple of decades back thought that their incorrect use of language was a dig at Democrats. Maybe a Rush Limbaugh (rest in piss) invention, but I seem to recall Newt (I divorced my dying wife) Gingrich using it.
