Just here to talk to old friends and make new ones. Photography, word play, LGBTQ rights, music, woodworking.
Grading exams. Student’s spell check transformed dummy variable to gummy bear and now I am dead.

This is not hoarding.
This is capitalism trying the convince you to buy new stuff, the latest stuff, you need all the shiny things and bells and whistles! Why? To be more productive so that you can buy more stuff! You can’t be happy without the new stuff!

Here are some pics from along my driveway. It is overcast so you aren’t getting the full effect. The close-ups are Liquidambar styraciflua sweet gum. Note the nasty spiky balls that lend it the sobriquet gumball tree.

Cold weather means preparing a place for the approx 100 outdoor potted plants in the house. Then bringing them in. Here are a few. There are another 3 dozen or so that live inside year round.

I believe this is Tremella fuciformis, also called snow fungus. Edible. Cultivated in Asia as food and medicine.

I wish I could zoom in on the flower
With the eyes of a bee.
Better yet would be to rub my fuzzy legs
In its infinite petals.

You may have heard of Cincinnati style chili, chili over spaghetti noodles.
You may know that St Louis is famous for toasted ravioli.
Well, this is St Louis-style Cincinnati-style Chili.
Don’t hate me for my culinary genius.

America’s new call:
Give us your whites,
Your violent far right,
Your sons and daughters of enslavers,
But keep all of those who don’t want Jesus as savior.

Give us those who have riches,
Your greedy sons of bitches,
Your Nazis, your fascists,
And Fuck the huddled masses.

Parents: Son, at college you’re going to meet all kinds of people. They’re going to try to get you to try things. Kids experiment, we understand. You might want to carry a tiki torch and join the Proud Boys. We get it. But if you get vaxxed, don’t bother coming home.

My latest piece.
The curved legs are made by laminating three thin (3/16) pieces of white oak in a form. I used black ink to dye them. The top is spalted white oak. There are 7 holes, 2” diam. overall: 22”L X 3”W X 5.5”H. Oil finish.
If you’d like to buy it, or order one to your specs, DM me.

Here’s my latest for June.

When you’re glueing 3 planes and two parabolas along 6 intersections all at once.
Beauty takes a lot of clamping.

I’m making a hanging coatrack as a wedding present for my partner’s daughter. Walnut and white oak. Re-sawed the white oak to get the sought-after quartersawn pattern to show.

Linocut on white oak. Mermaid is 6 by 7 inches. Oak is 9 by 12 inches.
Lino was cut by my partner, June. This is my first successful larger print on wood. Getting a truly flat surface is still hit and miss for me. The oak’s grain makes it challenging, but I love the effect. I am going to work

From the “Don’t judge a book by its title” department. I saw this announcement in a newsletter and immediately imagined it would cause an outcry in this conservative community. Then I googled the book. It might still cause outrage from those who only consider the title.
