I am back in my house in the woods.

(she/her)
IT IS DONE.

The entirety of the house exterior has been sanded back. Everything but this wall has had fire retardant oil applied. The front left and rear right sections of wall have two coats of stain and a topcoat.

The front right, rear left, and half the west wall have one coat.

Getting there.

For the overwrought plan, see below.

…my entire family is like this on my dad’s side. We cannot help ourselves.
October 15, 2025 at 3:40 AM
I mean it *barely* fits. I needed 1350mm and that’s what I got. Can’t turn the handle to raise the level, let alone the wheels.

But thank god, my overwrought and complex backup plan will not be needed.

But, counterpoint:

OH MY GOD WE ARE SO CLOSE.
October 14, 2025 at 11:38 AM
The other side of that wall *was* accessed by ladder, and I was able to stabilise those with some very precisely chosen bits of wood, but it got a little bit hairy up the top of the Bailey, and the path is actually not as bad there.

It’s terrible.

It is *less* terrible.

By “narrow”, I mean “less than scaffold width.” Which is an issue, because that means we can’t just reassemble the scaffold where we want it, like we could on the other side of the house (see below).
October 13, 2025 at 9:52 AM
The issue is that untouched section up near the peak.

What you *can’t* see in that photo (but can in these ones, before we put the extension on) is that the slope drops away towards where the scaffold is, and the extra height is all *sub-floor* baby.

And the brick path is narrow.

(I say “safely” and am aware that I am somehow part mountain goat and part spider monkey, so what is safe for me will be “you fucking idiot” to someone else.)

Anyways.

I am so tired I am staggering.

And we are faced with…

…a conundrum.
October 13, 2025 at 9:52 AM
In the ongoing project that has taken over my entire life, for the past… four years and four months, minus three days (but who’s counting?), another step has been ticked off.

The entire west gable wall has been stripped and sanded to 120.

(this is a condition of our building permit.)

And because I have way too much fun making them, current picrew of Beth (there have been a few, this is the non-stabby one).
October 4, 2025 at 2:16 AM
On D&D calls, I typically keep my hands busy with cross-stitch.

On this call, I spent the time sketching, instead, and just to be clear, I am not an artist.

This is simply Beth the sea elf’s answer to the query:

“Why cactus?”

Result: DM has claimed this as a homebrew monster.

Belatedly took this goober in for his 12 month check up (he is 14 months, what the fuck is time?!).

He is 48.6kgs.

He is not overweight — vet says he’s probably about the upper edge of okay for a dog his size, but he is VERY muscular.

…tell me about it, ma’am.
September 15, 2025 at 10:16 AM
I received two early birthday presents in the mail from two different friends from two ENTIRELY non-overlapping social crews and, indeed, four countries…

…and look: DO MY PEOPLE FKN KNOW ME OR WHAT

Tag thanks in next post—

No cheating. Post the last pic of your pet.
July 20, 2025 at 11:40 AM
Also, previous dog had no interest in eating bits of random plants.

…just rocks.

So my assumption is that dogs cannot be trusted not to eat random non-food items.

But we went through so much bs getting home, and the reason is basically this…
July 4, 2025 at 9:37 AM
When he does little yips and woofs in his sleep, his mouth doesn’t open. Dream noises don’t get much volume.

So I wonder how loud the howl would have been if he’d been awake.

…and I wonder what he was dreaming about?

Obligatory pet tax:

Nobody:

Literally nobody:

Me: wanna see my 10.5 month old, 40+kg Rottweiler puppy doing zoomies?

[note: for real zoomies, start around 18s. Before that, he keeps dropping his “stick.”]

But it’s also an issue because it’s toxic — not lethal, but a really upsetting gastrointestinal irritant; it hits mucous membranes, causes nausea and vomiting and rashes and general misery.

And Manny-pup is OBSESSED with it.

Short notice myotherapy appointment, and the man did not pull the therapeutic punches. Rebound pain in full swing.

While chatting, we discussed the mysterious voodoo-doll-lookin’ root I’d dug up in my garden (extraordinary biomass for probably 1.5 sq feet).

Diagnosis: Agapanthus.

Which suuuuucks.

But yeah, I don’t know what screams “special interest” more than this…

(The first two volumes aren’t taxonomic references, hence why I don’t have physical copies.)
May 7, 2025 at 12:03 AM
I’d better get moving, anyways.

We’ve got a planned power outage today (modem is running off an inverter), so I may walk the western boundary and see what repairs are needed on that fence.

We are very close to a Manny-proof yard. Pet tax attached.

Be safe, be wise, be kind,

So a mate saw this photo of Manny staring at the skylight and declared it an excellent reference for drawing.

Original artwork by Jessica Mason — thank you @zingo12.bsky.social!

I love it so much 🥰

My husband took this picture of Manny and shared it on our server, with the caption, "Today Manny discovered his reflection in the skylight."

Every time I look at it, I start giggling...

The microscope also requires coaxing.

To give you some context: the computer in the microslide room has this sign on it.

Windows 7 merely dates the upper limit of the software. It’s the word “firewire” that truly strikes fear into my heart.

And mostly this seems to work really well.

But.

OH! And if anyone wants to see “gigantic puppy indoor zoomies,” Michael took this video of someone galumphing and shared it with me while I was away.
