- at shopping malls
- at sports stadiums
- inside houses

Whoops, no, all those are true 😬

A chat with a bona fide bear researcher from the very bear-y state of Connecticut , about all this and more 🐻

I used to think "bear!" at every noise in the woods. Then I moved to Connecticut, where bears were around all the time, and I calmed down.

Until I heard about bears breaking into houses. Repeatedly. 😳😳

Plus a story about 5 bears meeting in *your* backyard 🐻🐻‍❄️

The kildeer determined to nest on the driveway has finally gone and done it, despite being flushed by cars many times per day.
At least she chose the edge.

Entry #8 in our local trail challenge. Getting back to this after several weekends busy with other things, some fun, some not.

A day of rail travel, full of vistas like constructed perspectives. Reminds me of long-ago art and drafting projects.

#3 or possibly #4 in the town trail challenge: the sculpture walk.
Did part of this while carrying a taco, which should be worth bonus points.

The silence of the winter woods.
Never has there been a better time to feel far away from the world.

Trail #2 in our town's annual challenge to get out on as many local trails as possible.
Never has there been a better time for a small obsession with a trail challenge!

Winter walk. A little new snow overnight to pretty up the ice.
All about the yak tracks!

After the last century, I mean few weeks, I think we know the answer to this:

Big raccoon hiked this trail before me. How do they make these tracks? Really looks like a two-footed creature hopping.

The welcome silence of the winter woods and the creaking of ice on the frozen lake.

I prefer this ice to the snow-covered patch I fell on this afternoon. 🤕

I never actually get amaryllis to bloom for Christmas, but I don't really mind. You appreciate them more a month later.

Among the lesser tragedies of the 2024 election is that the presidential outcome overshadowed this epic sticker drawn by a Michigan school kid.
Turns out their design was pretty prescient, eh?
