Yeah, sentence by sentence is a lot for a whole book. It’s much easier for short stories. Paragraphs should still be really helpful. Even scene by scene is good, if you just want to focus on making sure every scene has a purpose and connection to the theme.

I’ve done sentence by sentence editing. It’s a good way to focus on small details like spelling and grammar. When you edit forward, you can get caught up in the story, and it’s easy to skip over mistakes.
Going backwards breaks the immersion and makes it easier to avoid getting distracted.
