My parents were good suburban neighbors, but they grew up in the country. I know what you mean: I've lived in every kind of setting & city or country>suburbs.
And bless you for helping out with the shoveling. I used to and can't anymore because I am OLD and have a bad back.

A thought: make it harder for them? Find new ways to say it that don't turn into easy search terms. Instead of 'interrogating', explain that you are 'sifting evidence and studying emergent aspects,' or similar? They can't search for 'studying' or 'evidence', and they're too lazy to actually READ.
