....but even then, it was more of a 'try to make resistance look unified' kinda vibe. But then pundits came along and said stuff like 'can Newsom ride this popularity to the Whitehouse?' Then trolls were like 'if you don't like Newsom you might as well be MAGA'...but yeah, never anyone legitimate.

It's quite possibly engineered discord. I have seen many fake accounts hop on, troll until there's multiple threads of arguments, then disappear within a few weeks. The early months of Trump saw folks encouraging support of Newsom as his social media team was actually hitting Trump where it hurts...

Creating a social landscape weirdly divorced from material realities where sentiment is sacred may, in hindsight, have been an oopsie

Patronizing. You were unnecessarily patronizing in a way that I've often seen (lately) in fake and bot accounts here on Bluesky.

Good thing I spent that $48000 in Charmin Ultra Strong and Colgate Total back in the ol' corona days.

Yeah, gotta give ya that one! Especially considering how easily folks are swayed by what they hope is happening vs what is really happening.
February 17, 2026 at 12:58 AM
True. I work with highly dependent multiple diagnoses/neurodiverse & brain injured folks....gotta admit I often get to see the best in people. Sometimes makes the monstrousness that much harder to understand though!
February 17, 2026 at 12:55 AM
Yeah...same boat here. "Epstein list is a fake to hide the real pedos: Tom Hanks and Hillary Clinton" or "that nurses getting killed video is AI". I wish this was satire. I don't even communicate with them anymore (just creep their social media to remind me that they are lost causes).

Ugh. Thus is the world

And yet Carney hasn't set out to destroy DEI
February 17, 2026 at 12:18 AM
Holding him accountable means writing letters to your MP. It means signing petitions and showing up to protests, events, hearings. Pointing out all of the ways he's failing on social media, without any "oh hey, he does at least pretend to support human rights" is a little demonizing.
February 17, 2026 at 12:17 AM
One of the biggest issues is conflating social conservatism with economic conservatism. Convincing Canadian Conservatives that their identities don't need to include bigotry or intolerance is the top priority. Trudeau didn't convince them that LGBTQIA2 lives matter...but Carney just might.

I'm always amazed at the audacity of anonymous posters who think patronizing someone has any effect. "I don't have the courage to identify myself, but you should totally care if I look down on you". I'm guessing you're Russian?
February 16, 2026 at 11:55 PM
Demonizing Carney is short-sighted, and giving any uneducated voter fodder that sounds like 'Carney is just as bad as PP' is no way forward. Reminding Liberals that their power also depends on left leaning voters isn't the same as 'here's all the way he's failing'.
February 16, 2026 at 11:53 PM
....but those voters are timid mice trying out a whole new area. Slamming them because the Liberals aren't socialist enough will just send them back to their old hole. Supporting their choice, while reminding the Liberals that they owe a lot to their left-wing supporters, is the way to build bridges
February 16, 2026 at 11:43 PM
For sure. But look at Stitsville (Carleton) -an area I worked for 5 years (homecare so got to learn a lot about the locals), was very hard won. I'm no Liberal, but I thank god left leaning voters teamed up with the Liberal candidate there......

Because a lot of Canadians still take soooo much for granted. Sooooo frustrating. OPSEU almost has teeth....just gotta figure out how we use them. I just come from a 'easier to catch flies with sugar' kind of background, so I idealize a diplomatic approach towards convincing governments to care.
February 16, 2026 at 11:17 PM
For sure. 100% education is key. But one of the ironies of the situation is many many Canadians have done well thanks to liberalism. Teaching empathy must come first, as without it entitled folks won't understand how that which neoliberalism inherently works against humanity's hopes for the future.
February 16, 2026 at 11:11 PM
I am a unionist...but converting the converted seems a bit futile. Convincing my deeply Blue neighbour that nurses and Healthcare workers are actually worth spending a bit more on taxes felt like a true indication of the way forward.
February 16, 2026 at 10:54 PM
100%
February 16, 2026 at 10:47 PM
I agree with that...but historically the kind of change needed to reinvent the controlling class entirely involves a whole lot of death...and that's where the idealist in me shows up - maybe there's a way where most of us won't have to die?
February 16, 2026 at 10:46 PM
True. But if they manage to kill a few billion on their way down they'll convince themselves they won something. And they seem very willing to do so
February 16, 2026 at 10:42 PM
Agreed...unfortunately there's a whole lot of entitled folks that still feel very safe and are very ignorant to where the entire world is heading. Convincing them to take care of their own community is hard enough, let alone taking to the streets.
February 16, 2026 at 10:41 PM
As soon as a great leader shows up, then yes- let's rally behind them. But they didn't. Holding Carney accountable, engaging in grass roots action, convincing your neighbors that we all need & deserve care & respect is the way forward. Shaming folks for supporting the only option isn't.
