In fairness Gyokeres created one of our biggest chances of the half the only time he received the ball in the final third. That’s a service issue.

We’ve been bad at defending crosses this year in transition. West Ham, Newcastle and Villa all recently scored against us with early crosses, our defenders unable to sort things out despite a numerical advantage. Bowen and Tielemans should never be winning a header in the box with markers nearby.

My biggest complaint with both our DOGSO reds this year, though this one was a clearer decision than Saliba’s. Frankly I’d prefer they just ditch the “clear and obvious” gambit, wildly subjective phrase that invites way too much interpretation.

Calafiori has struggled to defend 1v1 wide all season, makes you wonder how viable he is there long term, because we leave our fullbacks to do a fair bit of that when we turn over possession in the final third. Timber, by comparison, is a master of it, gets so tight and physically dominates his mark
