In fairness the Imperials seem literally unaware of them! It's not an occupation, it's one relatively small facility. So it's not unreasonable

Yeah I think it would have been an excellent joke if they played it completely straight that the Ewoks are terrifying, even if they look like teddy bears

Like Ewoks are cannibals? They eat people? We kind of gloss over that in the big celebration after the Death Star explodes but all those Imperials who died in the fight are definitely the main course at the BBQ!
