I think it might not be less metaphysical but trivialized, afterlives and such matters are too abstract for humans since its not something that can be visually depicted or shown in numbers, so maybe for u it felt similar to how other people see it as an oversimplification/overexplanation?

Stripped of their identity and are basically reshaped into something abstract", especially when the afterlives we got feel like harry potter school houses designations or whatever like those very obvious popquizzes 😭😭😭

I think because in tes thats partially because it has been there from the beginning, the shadowlands we have known of havent been really touched at all and i think people got freaked out by the idea that "so after death my character is assigned to something i possibly dont agree with and gets >

The jailor was a terrible actor in SL, not only was he a fuckass villain he also served as a scapegoat for sylvanas which on one hand takes away a lot of her agency but on the other hand they realized too late that making sylvanas commit genocide was unforgivable so this was their "best" solution

(I think that mostly summarizes it sorry i went on a tangent here and there praying this is somewhat cohesive KDBFKF)
December 1, 2025 at 4:29 PM
For some kind of "is your mind blown already?" Reveal moment, oh and overfixing too like they did with sylvanas i think the writers would be better off writing with a clear foresight in mind and not writing in the moment and writing whatever is coolest or most shocking because that will not age well

Also see it as a flaw, especially in eso, the singleplayer games are much more goofy partially due to developer mistakes and silly voice acting, because when everything is serious nothing is) so i think atm wows major flaw is the overlinking and overexplaining of lore with terrible backtracking >
December 1, 2025 at 4:29 PM
The audience because theories are cool and none of us are 5 years olds who need everything spelled out), wow is like cinema in a way the stories feel kind of grandiose and when it starts taking itself too seriously it becomes a little weird (i think tes is a much more "serious" setting but i can >
December 1, 2025 at 4:29 PM
I think tes is also inherently more esoteric at its core than wow is so something metaphysical feels much less out of place within it than it does in wow (which it doesnt have to be IF its explored correctly without overwriting/explaining leaving a little bit of mystery and rumination for >

And instead has taken on a trend of adding new things every expansion while the old stuff collects dust, i think the world of tes is smaller overall but it feels more correctly crafted and the advantage of eso is that it can steal already existing lore from the singleplayer games and expand on it >
December 1, 2025 at 4:29 PM
Social commentary paired with absurdity and exaggeration similar to how i felt playing through undermine, but on the base line i think wow was described somewhere as vast as an ocean as deep as a puddle theres a LOT of lore but blizzard is allergic to giving existing a little bit more writing >
December 1, 2025 at 4:29 PM
In which case i even prefer wow over eso, eso is very correctly written maybe even too correctly, its missing that bit of oomph for me that is on the other hand there in the singleplayer games, the times i did ADORE eso though was when morrowind/cwc released, it was the perfect mix of deep >
December 1, 2025 at 4:29 PM
SJVFJF no worries!! I cant really say what i think eso or tes in general did better but im going to try, maybe its as simple as "theyre different types of games hence they have different limitations", a singleplayer game allows a much more indepth dive into lore and presentation than a mmorpg >

Yeah like as someone coming from tes like where this stuff is pretty "normalized" as far as the player character mantling sheogorath im like is it really that crazy though JDVFKFBF
