Precisely why, if we get through all this, any reforms must begin with impeaching and removing bad actors. If we cannot overcome the inertia and rid the judiciary of the Emil Boves confirmed during the Trump years, it is going to be extraordinarily difficult to prevent that outcome.

Perhaps beside the point, and I understand Frum is referring to the start of his first term, but December 2015 was not "pre-Trump". He was well known generally, Birtherism campaign started in Feb. 2011, and had been officially campaigning for six months by the time that article was published.

They all turn to each other after they take their oaths & are equally as thrilled for the person standing next to them. The judge looks like a proud professor on graduation day, clearly feeling as privileged to be up there as those whose oaths he is administering. 2/
