In the summer of 1858 hot weather began to cause the smell of untreated sewage in the Thames to worsen. The smell was so bad it prompted local and national administration to begin the construction of proper sewage systems.

Tarrare was a French showman, soldier and spy who was known for his insatiable appetite and strange eating habits. He is said to have eaten a toddler, live animals, corks and stones 🍴

Did you know some Tudor women used to use ‘puppy-juice’ as skin care?

Puppies would be chopped up, boiled, and distilled. The resulting liquid was said give you all the virtues that made the puppy adorable, so the cuter the dog, the better 🐶
