I got one like that - when they catch the light they really pop. I like how male mallard seem to change colour too.

Yep, the male on top of gorse or heather is the gold standard. I have had similar trials trying to catch Goldcrest - saw a couple today but they were too active to catch 'in the frame'. Fine collection of fir tree shots mind.
Had a much better experience with Firecrest, amongst the many stick shots.

This deer was flying past the 'sound mirror' at Kilnsea, E Yorks. The sound mirror pre-dates radar and WW1 and was an early warning device to listen out for enemy aircraft.
